Abstract:
The 2015 Australasian Evaluation Society Conference theme of 'reaching across boundaries' is very relevant to issues relating to the management of an internal evaluation unit. I will draw on my own and others' experiences to show how reaching across boundaries, both vertically and horizontally is an inevitable and integral part of evaluation management. A brief overview of relevant contextual information, and the development and position of evaluation in Switzerland is discussed first. This is followed by a comparison of internal evaluation experiences in other national, supranational and international contexts. The article will finish with a discussion on strategies to meet some of the challenges often faced by evaluation units, as well as presenting some questions about the further development of an internal evaluation function.
